5 Steps to Protect Your Home This Dengue Season

June is the hottest and most humid month in Singapore. This means that mosquitoes can easily thrive in this kind of weather. Unfortunately for us, this means that dengue cases will be the highest this month. Just this past week, there has been 872 cases reported, which is an increase of 140 cases from the previous week. The first half of 2020 has over 9,839 dengue cases, which is the highest number of cases in the first 6 months of a year since 2013. If it is not controlled, 2020 will be the largest outbreak year recorded in Singapore’s history.

This is why it is especially important for all of us to take care of our health and also be consistent in doing the Mozzie Wipe Out in our homes. From June to October, the number of dengue cases may rise. So, everyone needs to do their part to control the disease so that the outbreak won’t get out of hand. We do not need another pandemic-like situation with dengue.

However, controlling 190 active dengue clusters is not easy. But we can still do our part to ensure that the number of dengue cases will decrease. That starts with doing the Mozzie Wipe Out at least 2 times a week. In 5 easy steps, you are one step closer to stopping the dengue outbreak in Singapore.

  1. Mozzie Wipe Out

In your own bathrooms, be sure to turn the pails so that there won’t be any stagnant water. Stagnant water is the perfect breeding ground for Aedes, so we need to make sure that there is no still water in our house. If you have any vases or flower pot plate, be sure to turn those over too.

  1. Spray insecticide at dark corners

Spraying insecticide in corners of your homes will help to kill any mosquitoes or insects that are nesting in those corners. This will protect everyone in your homes from any insect-borne diseases.

  1. Apply mosquito repellent

There are a lot of mosquito repellent available in Singapore. From over-the-counter mosquito repellents to natural mosquito repellents, the choices are endless. However, if you want to air out mosquito repellent in your homes or if you do not like spraying repellent on your body, the easiest way to do that is to use home scents or room scents like HYSSES Home Scent or Peppermint Room Scent to easily spray and diffuse in your homes.

  1. Dispose waste properly

This is the simplest thing that you can possibly do. When it comes to disposing wastes in your homes, be sure that you use closed bins so as to prevent the smell of the waste from attracting insects into your homes.

  1. Install mosquito net screens

This is super important if you have young kids or elderlies in your homes. Their immune system is weaker than the average adult, so it is easier for them to get dengue. By installing mosquito net screens near their bed, it can protect them from being bitten by any mosquitoes in their sleep.

These 5 steps are super easy to do and it will make sure that your homes are protected from dengue and this gets us one step closer to stopping this outbreak.
