5 Essential Oils for Diabetes Type 2

Diabetes affects the way that the body produces and uses insulin, and if left untreated or improperly managed, it can lead to life-threatening complications like heart failure, blindness and damaged kidney. If you are a type 2 diabetes (where your body does not use insulin properly) and want relief from your diabetes and to help control your blood sugars, essential oils can help.

Essential oils are natural aromatic extracts from plants, flowers, and herbs through a cold pressing or steam distillation process. The oils capture the odor and other characteristic properties of the plant (like their chemical constituents). Once the aromatic chemicals have been extracted, they are combined with a carrier oil to create a ready-to-use product. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy practice as the natural ingredients can be used in a way to achieve balance physically, mentally and emotionally.

Bergamot [Available on eStore]
Bergamot essential oil comes from the peel of the fruit of the bergamot tree when the fruit is cold-pressed. This essential oil improves blood circulation, stimulates hormonal secretions and digestive health, bringing balance to the body. Through the stimulation of hormonal secretions, it can help to maintain proper metabolic rates with a stimulating effect on the secretion of bile, digestive juices, and insulin. This improves digestion, absorption, assimilation, and decomposition of sugar, leading to a decrease in the blood sugar levels.

Cinnamon [Available on eStore
Cinnamon essential oil is derived from the cinnamon plant (either bark or leaves) through the process of steam distillation. This essential oil is known to diminish the feelings of depression, faintness, and exhaustion, stimulate the libido and strengthen immunity. It also has positive effects on insulin release, helps to keep blood sugar stable and prevent chronic fatigue, moodiness, sugar craving, and overeating.

Grapefruit [Available on eStore]
Grapefruit essential oil is derived from the glands embedded deep within the peel of the fruit which yields a small amount of oil when cold-pressed. Grapefruit contains a flavonoid called naringenin which has been shown to have some important effects for blood sugar regulation and overall health. It is an antioxidant, promotes carbohydrate metabolism, has anti-inflammatory effects, and helps to modulate immune function.

Lavender [Available on eStore]
Lavender essential oil has been around for centuries and is one of the most popular essential oils today. Lavender (Lavandula) is a plant native to the mountainous areas of the Mediterranean and is cultivated from the fresh purple flowers to make lavender essential oil. This essential oil has a natural calming effect, as it eliminates tension, relieves pain, disinfects, enhances blood circulation and treats respiratory problems. It has potent antioxidant properties to help protect against diabetes and oxidative stress.

Ylang Ylang [Available on eStore]
Ylang Ylang essential oil is derived from the steam distillated flowers of the Cananga odorata botanical. It is a natural sedative, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, and antidepressant. This essential oil is known to soothe feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness, tension, and sleeplessness. It is a good choice for diabetics who have irritability or mood swings. It can help calm the mind and body and promote inner peace.
